  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp almond extract (optional)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined.
  • Roll the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and chill for 1-2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out dough to ¼-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  • Use heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut out shapes, and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden. Cool on a wire rack before decorating.
