This Shrimp Dirty Rice recipe is a delicious Cajun-inspired dish made with tender shrimp, seasoned rice, and aromatic vegetables. It's the perfect one-pot meal that's easy to make and bursting with bold flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 ½ cups long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • ½ lb ground sausage
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Cook the rice according to package instructions, using chicken broth instead of water for extra flavor.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté onion, bell pepper, and celery until soft. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  • Stir in paprika, Cajun seasoning, thyme, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  • Add shrimp and cook until pink, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Return the sausage to the skillet and mix well. Stir in cooked rice and Worcestershire sauce, combining everything evenly.
  • Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use andouille sausage for an authentic Cajun flavor.
  • Adjust spice levels by adding more or less Cajun seasoning.
  • Swap white rice for brown rice for a healthier option.
