  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (for sauce thickening)
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish

Instructions

  • In a bowl, coat chicken pieces with beaten eggs and then dredge in cornstarch.
  • Heat oil in a skillet and fry chicken until golden and crispy. Set aside.
  • In the same skillet, sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant.
  • Mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, sugar, chicken broth, and cornstarch in a bowl. Add to the skillet and stir until thickened.
  • Toss the fried chicken in the sauce until evenly coated.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Adjust the spice level by adding or omitting red pepper flakes.
  • For a gluten-free version, use tamari instead of soy sauce and ensure hoisin sauce is gluten-free.
