Ingredients

  • Ground Beef: Lean ground beef or substitutes like ground turkey or chicken
  • Onion: Finely diced yellow onion

  • Potatoes: Russet or Yukon Gold
  • Canned Soup: Condensed mushroom soup and condensed chicken soup
  • Evaporated Milk: Can substitute with half and half or whole milk
  • Shredded Cheese: Cheddar, American slices, or a blend of Cheddar, Colby, and Monterey Jack

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add diced onions and minced garlic to the skillet, cooking until the onions are translucent.
  • Slice the potatoes thinly and layer them in a greased casserole dish.
  • In a bowl, mix the condensed soups with evaporated milk until smooth.
  • Layer the cooked ground beef mixture over the potatoes.
  • Pour the soup mixture over the beef and potatoes.
  • Top with shredded cheese.
  • Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, use ground turkey or chicken.
  • Adjust the cheese type according to your preference for different flavors.
  • Let the casserole sit for a few minutes before serving for easier slicing.
