Sweet potato casserole recipe with creamy sweet potatoes and a crispy pecan topping. A comforting holiday favorite that’s easy to make.

  • 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4 medium sweet potatoes)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, melted butter, granulated sugar, eggs, milk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the sweet potato mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In another bowl, combine brown sugar, flour, and pecans. Add softened butter and mix until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the pecan topping evenly over the sweet potato mixture.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and bubbly.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg to the sweet potato mixture.
  • Marshmallows can be substituted for the pecan topping if desired.
  • This dish can be made a day ahead and reheated before serving.
