These Southern-style honey butter cornbread poppers are a delightful mix of sweet and savory flavors. Made with rich honey, creamy butter, and classic cornbread ingredients, they’re crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Perfect as a side dish, appetizer, or snack!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup corn kernels (optional)

 

  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, mix buttermilk, melted butter, honey, and egg.
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed; fold in corn kernels if using.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  • Drop small spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.

 

  • Drain on paper towels and serve warm with extra honey butter.

Notes

  • Use a cookie scoop for evenly sized poppers.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey.

 

  • Serve with honey butter or maple syrup for extra flavor.
