Enjoy a delightful homemade cherry jam with this easy recipe featuring ripe cherries, sugar, and lemon juice. Perfect for spreading on toast or adding to desserts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 kg (2 lbs) pitted cherries, preferably ripe and sweet
  • 400-500 grams (1 lb) white sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 tbsp butter (optional)
  • If using pectin, follow the directions on the package, this jam is fine without it

Instructions

  • Place the pitted cherries in a large pot.
  • Add sugar and lemon juice to the pot.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Once boiling, reduce heat and let it simmer. Stir frequently and skim off any foam.
  • If using, add vanilla extract and butter for extra flavor and to reduce foam.
  • Continue to simmer until the mixture thickens to the desired consistency.
  • Test the jam by placing a small amount on a cold plate; if it gels, it's ready.
  • Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving a small gap at the top.
  • Seal the jars and let them cool at room temperature.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar quantity based on the sweetness of the cherries.
  • Optional vanilla and butter enhance flavor and texture but are not necessary.
